Job summary

Bayside Health in Melbourne is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Amber’s Alert project, a diagnostic tool initiative for mental health conditions in youths. The role is part of MAPrc in collaboration with Monash University and HER Centre Australia, based at 607 St Kilda Road.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor with Honours, demonstrate strong communication and time management, and have experience with clinical trials and REDCap. Onsite work and comprehensive benefits apply.

  • A Bachelor degree with Honours in a relevant study discipline (e.g., psychology, science, biomedical science, health science or a related field), or equivalent relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day delivery of the Amber’s Alert project, aiming to improve early identification and differentiation of psychosis, PTSD, and depression in young people
  • Plan, implement and coordinate a range of research and administrative tasks and collaborate with staff as needed

  • Fixed Term – 12 months
  • Full-time: 80 hours per fortnight
  • Classification: Managers and Administrative Worker Grade 3 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
The Department

MAPrc is an Alfred Health based clinical research centre in partnership with Monash University’s Department of Psychiatry, (CCS) and HER Centre Australia. Together they conduct impactful clinical research dedicated to improving women’s mental health, based at 607 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. The department has been a constant source of output in the areas of cutting‑edge clinical research, innovation in clinical practice, and a strong voice of advocacy and understanding for women living with mental illness. For researchers aspiring to innovate treatments that have a meaningful impact on the community, HER Centre Australia is the ideal environment.

HER Centre Australia is a Monash University research centre with affiliations with both Alfred Health and Cabrini, enabling direct translational pathways from research to clinical practice. Being based in the Alfred Hospital, HER Centre Australia researchers are in the ideal setting to identify specific clinical problems or draw from the lived experience of service consumers to inform their research. We excel in the translation of cutting‑edge science to world‑class clinical trials and studies, aimed at making a transformative difference to people living with poor mental health.

The Role

The Research Assistant will support the day‑to‑day delivery of the Amber’s Alert project, which aims to develop a diagnostic tool to improve the early identification and differentiation of psychosis, complex post‑traumatic stress disorder and depression in young people.

Skills and Experience
  • A Bachelor degree with Honours in a relevant study discipline (e.g., psychology, science, biomedical science, health science or a related field), or equivalent relevant experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills and a high level of motivation in achieving research outcomes
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high‑level work using software such as Microsoft Office applications and statistical programs, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages as appropriate.
  • Experience working with people with mental ill health
  • Clinical Trials experience and sound knowledge of ICH‑GCP guidelines
  • A basic understanding of REDCap
