Job summary

Insitu Pacific is seeking an RPAS Instructor (Maintenance/Operator) to lead training for technicians and staff in Australia and overseas. The role includes classroom, flight and simulation instruction, with occasional international deployments up to 4 months.

The successful candidate will bring RPAS knowledge, training design experience, and the ability to adapt to diverse teams. A Defence clearance and a valid driver license are required.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Aeroskills and Training & Assessment (or higher) is required.
• Knowledge of RPAS, air vehicle, ground segments and maintenance.
• Eligibility for Australian Defence Security Clearance.
• Valid Australian Open (Manual) Driver Licence.
• Ability to operate in remote locations for up to 4 months.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and evaluate RPAS training for Maintenance Technicians and staff.
• Maintain training area resources and ensure compliance with standards.
• Conduct classroom, practical, flight and simulation instruction.

The Opportunity

The Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Instructor (Maintenance/Operator) is primarily responsible for reviewing, updating, delivering, and evaluating RPAS training for Maintenance Technicians and delivering flight training for staff and customers in Australia and overseas. From time to time the RPAS Instructor will also support the Flight Operations Team on domestic and international assignments for up to 4 months at a time.

Responsibilities

• In liaison with the Training Course Lead (if applicable):
  • Determining daily instructional needs / objectives and adjusting content and delivery as necessary.
  • Reviewing training syllabuses, class rosters, students training records and courseware requirements.
  • Identifying and scheduling training resources to include facilities, hardware/equipment, and flight time availability
• Upkeep of Maintenance Training Area including items such as Controlled Tool Kit (CTK) Management, Electro-Static Discharge Management, Quarantine Management, and Spares Management
• Verifying that all resources and daily training content is compliant with contractual and regulatory requirements and maintenance standards.
• Conducting classroom, practical, flight and simulation instruction, and demonstrating maintenance procedures and practices in both formal and field environments.
• Obtaining real-time student feedback and adjusting delivery to meet training objectives.
• Assigning student work, administering informal student assessments, performing remedial instruction and completing daily student records and other required documentation
• Supporting Flight Operations includes:
  • Maintaining RPAS.
  • Conducting pre-flight planning to ensure maintenance and scheduled servicing requirements are met
  • Evaluating customer's mission requirements and determining operational needs.
  • Executing mission and delivering full motion video and payload data.
  • Completing post-mission reports/logs.
  • May support demonstration flights.
  • Performing RPAS and ground support equipment testing, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Coordinating with Company subject matter experts to resolve issues beyond the scope of field maintenance capability.
  • Documenting maintenance actions.
  • Conducting inventory of RPAS spares/components and reports cycle counts.
  • Conducting on-site formal/informal technical training.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential

• Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics/ Technical/ Structures)Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher equivalent and work experience as an Instructor.
• Knowledge of RPAS to include air vehicle, ground segments (e.g., ground stations and mission plans) and supportability.
• Knowledge of maintenance processes, tools, troubleshooting techniques and standards.
• Information Technology skills including application, hardware and networking.
• Demonstrated understanding of and effective adaptation to varying interpersonal styles and norms across cultures.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional and productive customer relationships and address customer expectations.
• Eligibility for an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
• Possession of a valid Australian Open (Manual) Driver License.
• Ability to operate in remote national and international locations for up to 4 months at a time.

Desirable

• Possession of a Diploma in Training Design and Development and/or experience as an Instructional Designer.
• Possession of a ScanEagle 2 or Integrator qualification.
• Either a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and have passed a CASA Instrument Rating Examination (IREX) or Instrument Rating qualification, in order to perform RPAS Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements
• Able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
• You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024. Please refer to the Department of Defence website to understand these requirements.
