Job summary

Mercor is seeking an Applied Legal Benchmark Specialist on a remote contract basis. The role requires authoring and rating legal questions with rigorous standards, including step-by-step reasoning and references.

The work commitment is 10+ hours per week, and compensation is $83–$105 per hour. Ideal candidates hold a JD/LLM/SJD (or doctoral candidate) with strong legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, and jurisprudential theory, plus excellent written English.

Qualifications

• JD/LLM/SJD or doctoral candidate in Law.
• Master's degree considered for exceptional depth in a subdomain.
• Strong command of legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, and jurisprudential theory.
• Excellent written English.

Responsibilities

• Author original law questions testing deep conceptual understanding.
• Ensure questions are unambiguous, self-contained, and precisely defined.
• Rate each question's difficulty: Medium, Hard, or Expert.
• Provide 1 correct answer and 9 plausible but subtly incorrect alternatives.
• Write step-by-step Chain-of-Thought solutions in markdown format.
• Supply 1–5 academic references per question.
• Flag clarity, completeness, precision, or solvability issues and justify edits.
