Job summary

DISCO is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a product engineering team, guiding technical design, implementation, and optimisation while mentoring engineers to grow their careers.

You will collaborate with product and design peers to prioritise work that balances feature delivery with performance, reliability, and customer value, fostering ownership and high standards across the org.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading a team of engineers in a high-growth or complex product environment.
• Deep understanding of designing, building, and maintaining scalable web applications, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of modern backend and frontend technologies, system performance optimisation, and architectural best practices for high-traffic applications.
• Ability to make strategic trade-offs between feature development, technical debt, and operational improvements, with data-driven reasoning.
• Experience working closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to align on goals and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Familiarity with monitoring, incident response, and maintaining service reliability at scale, including SLOs and observability.
• Knowledge of modern software development workflows, CI/CD, testing strategies, and iterative improvement of engineering processes.
• Strong communication and ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Product & Technical Leadership – Define and track OKRs with Product/Design; balance feature delivery with debt reduction and system health.
• Technical Oversight – Review designs/architecture; contribute when needed to support team success.
• Team Development – Mentor engineers through 1:1s and career plans; foster engagement and ownership.
• Cross-functional Collaboration – Ensure feasibility and high-quality delivery with Product and Design.
• Engineering Standards & Best Practices – Define and implement standards for consistency in quality and reliability.
• Operational Excellence – Monitor SLOs, error rates, cycle time, and cost; drive process improvements.
• Incident Management & On-call – Oversee incident response and post-mortems for lasting fixes.
• Continuous Improvement – Drive CI/CD improvements and more efficient workflows.
