Bookkeeper | Fully Remote within Australia | Casual
15-20 hours per week initially | $37-$42 per hour plus super
Enjoy getting the accounts right, solving problems and understanding what sits behind the numbers? We’re looking for an experienced bookkeeper who takes ownership of their work and wants to become a valued, long-term member of our team.
You’ll work across a portfolio of Australian businesses, managing recurring bookkeeping and payroll workflows, communicating with clients and helping deliver accurate, reliable financial information.
For us, bookkeeping goes well beyond coding bank transactions. It means reconciling Balance Sheet accounts, checking balances, investigating discrepancies and following outstanding items through to resolution. You need the experience to recognise when something doesn’t look right and have the skills and judgement to work out why.
Taking ownership also means delivering accurate, complete work within agreed deadlines and allocated timeframes. You can prioritise competing tasks, track outstanding items and communicate early when something may affect delivery. Quality, efficiency and reliability all matter.
The role starts at approximately 15–20 hours per week, with genuine opportunity to increase hours as you and the business grow.
This is a role for an individual based in Australia, employed directly as part of our team. We are not seeking agencies, offshore providers, outsourced bookkeeping businesses or subcontracting arrangements. We will not respond to these enquiries.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including preparing payment runs.
Reconcile bank, credit card and balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll accurately and on time.
Complete month-end bookkeeping and supporting reconciliations.
Prepare accurate workpapers and supporting information for BAS and financial reporting.
Manage client emails, request missing information and follow up outstanding queries.
Use Xero, Excel and related software to check data, identify issues and maintain reliable records.
Manage recurring workflows across multiple clients, completing work within agreed deadlines and allocated timeframes.
Flag missing information, delays or work taking longer than expected early, so priorities and next steps can be agreed before delivery is affected.
You’re an experienced, hands-on bookkeeper who enjoys detailed work and can demonstrate the technical skills behind your experience.
You’ll need:
At least three years’ recent bookkeeping experience, including responsibility for reconciliations, payroll and month-end work.
Very strong practical Xero skills, extending beyond bank feeds and transaction coding to reconciliations, reporting, corrections and investigating discrepancies.
Strong Excel skills, including confidently using formulas, lookups, filters and pivot tables to reconcile and analyse financial data.
Solid experience processing Australian payroll independently.
The ability to explain how you check your work and establish that accounts are accurate and complete.
Sound judgement about what you can resolve independently and when to ask for guidance.
Clear, professional written communication and confidence dealing directly with clients.
The ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines while working efficiently within allocated timeframes.
A collaborative approach, openness to feedback and a willingness to follow documented processes.
A proactive mindset and an interest in improving how work gets done.
A dedicated home office with dual screens and reliable internet.
Availability during Australian Eastern business hours (AEST/AEDT).
We’re looking for someone who wants to build a long-term working relationship with Copia, contribute to our team and grow their knowledge over time.
