You’ll be joining a collaborative team with strong systems, experienced colleagues and a genuine commitment to professional development and teamwork.

The Role

As Legal Secretary, you’ll be a trusted support partner to lawyers and the broader practice group, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of legal and administrative processes. This is a varied role that combines legal document preparation, client service, billing support and practice administration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, formatting and amending legal documents, correspondence, affidavits, briefs and client communications.
  • Managing document production through digital dictation and transcription.
  • Coordinating calendars, appointments, meetings and travel arrangements as required.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic and physical files, including document management, filing, scanning, printing and archiving.

  • Building strong relationships with clients, barristers, lawyers, partners and other stakeholders through professional and timely communication.
  • Managing incoming calls, handling enquiries and directing matters appropriately.
  • Preparing invoices, assisting with billing processes and responding to client billing queries.
  • Supporting monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reporting requirements for the practice group.
  • Generating client correspondence, engagement documentation and audit-related communications.
  • Conducting file reviews and audits to ensure compliance and accuracy of records.
  • Monitoring emails and correspondence, ensuring matters are actioned efficiently and deadlines are met.
  • Assisting with general practice administration and providing support across the team on various projects and ad hoc tasks.

About You

  • Previous experience in a Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant, Personal Assistant or similar professional services support role (ideally 2+ years).
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build effective relationships at all levels.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to anticipate needs and take initiative.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to contribute wherever needed.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency across Microsoft Office applications and confidence learning new systems.
  • Experience with NetDocuments, Practice Evolve or similar legal practice management systems will be highly regarded but is not essential.

Your New Team

You’ll enjoy a supportive and professional environment, exposure to a broad range of legal matters and the chance to build a long-term career in legal support within a respected national firm.

McInnes Wilson is a leading independent full-service firm with offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Maroochydore. Ready to Take the Next Step in Your Legal Support Career?

This isn’t your standard Legal Secretary role and we're not your standard law firm.

We were born out of a desire to do things differently. How we work, how we treat people, and how we build careers. No hierarchy-heavy, old-school culture. No "just another support role" mindset.

We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to join our Brisbane team and continue building their career in legal support.

Who Are We (Really)?

Yes, we're a national insurance law firm with offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

But more importantly:

  • Named a 5-Star Employer of Choice for seven consecutive years
  • Certified Great Place to Work for Women
  • Recognised as a Family Friendly Workplace
  • Awarded WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality
  • Named in the Best Law Firms List 2025

Awards are great, but what really matters is this:

  • We genuinely invest in our support teams
  • You're not "just the secretary" here
  • People stay because they enjoy the work, the culture and the opportunities available to them
