Job summary

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is recruiting for a Waste Operations Driver to join our team in NSW. You will operate heavy plant and waste collection equipment, execute bin delivery services, and respond to issues to keep our community clean and safe.

Applicants must hold a Class HR drivers licence and have experience with heavy rigid vehicles as well as rear-load or side-loader systems. A traffic control certificate and forklift licence are also desirable.

Qualifications

• HR Drivers Licence required.
• Experience driving a heavy rigid vehicle.
• Experience using rear load garbage compactors or side loader.
• Knowledge of waste and street cleansing operations and handling of related equipment.
• Traffic control certification required.
• Forklift licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate waste collection, street cleaning and bin delivery vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Complete domestic, commercial and public bin collections, including bin assembly, delivery and retrieval.
• Respond to dumped rubbish and emergency requests, including road spillages and vehicle breakdowns.
• Conduct daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance, reporting faults promptly.
• Maintain accurate operational records and comply with heavy vehicle, road safety, fatigue and load requirements.
• Work independently and collaboratively, communicating effectively for safe, efficient daily operations.

The role

Join our Waste Operations team and play a hands-on role in keeping our community clean and running smoothly. You’ll operate heavy plant and equipment, support efficient waste collection, and assist with Council’s bin delivery service—all while delivering safe, professional and reliable service to the community.

Duties will include but not be limited to

• Operate waste collection, street cleaning and bin delivery vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Complete domestic, commercial and public bin collections, including bin assembly, delivery and retrieval.
• Respond to dumped rubbish and emergency requests, including road spillages and vehicle breakdowns.
• Conduct daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance, reporting any faults or maintenance issues promptly.
• Maintain accurate operational records and comply with heavy vehicle, road safety, fatigue and load requirements.
• Work independently and collaboratively, communicating effectively to ensure safe, efficient daily operations.

You will have

• Class HR Drivers Licence
• Experience driving a heavy rigid vehicle
• Experience using rear load garbage compactors or side loader
• Knowledge and experience in the operations of waste and street cleansing activities and knowledge and experience in equipment used to perform such activities
• Traffic control certification
• Forklift licence

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $80,521 (Grade D, Step 3) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
