LAND 8710 was developed in response to strategic direction for the Australian Army to operate in littoral environments, replacing ageing amphibious capabilities with a modern, integrated system of landing craft, vehicles, and infrastructure. It enables independent ship-to-shore manoeuvre, sustained operations without port access, and improved deployment across the Indo-Pacific.
