Job summary

Amentum in Adelaide is seeking a Software Engineer (Level 2) to join our Defence-focused engineering team. You will support system planning, design and development, and participate in test and evaluation across multi-national projects under Defence policy and standards.

The role requires a Bachelor of Engineering, ITAR eligibility, 2–5 years of relevant experience, and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team while managing priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or an equivalent qualification meeting Washington Accord.
• Eligible to access ITAR-controlled information.
• Demonstrated experience (approx. 2–5 years) in a relevant engineering role.
• Understanding of software engineering methods, software design and development processes.
• Experience supporting software engineering activities for major capital acquisition.
• Ability to apply established engineering standards, tools and processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to manage own work and priorities under general direction.

Responsibilities

• Support review and assurance of system-level artefacts, including system planning, integration, design and development, and test & evaluation across Mission and Support Systems.
• Contribute to maintaining documentation repositories for engineering activities in compliance with Defence policy and standards.
• Operate under general direction within a complex, multinational environment to achieve engineering outcomes.

Role Description

The Software Engineer (Level 2) is accountable to the Project Engineer Manager and provides software engineering support within the engineering framework. The role supports the review and assurance of system‑level artefacts, including, system planning, integration, design and development, and test and evaluation (T&E), across Mission and Support Systems, and the execution of system reviews. The position contributes to maintaining documentation repositories for engineering activities in compliance with Defence policy, regulatory requirements and legislated standards. This role operates under general direction, contributing to engineering outcomes within a complex, collaborative, and multi‑national environment.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a professional engineer.
• Eligible to access ITAR‑controlled information
• Demonstrated experience (approx. 2‑5 years) in a relevant engineering role
• Understanding of software engineering methods, software design and development processes
• Experience supporting software engineering activities for major capital acquisition
• Ability to apply established engineering standards, tools and processes
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to manage own work and priorities under general direction

Desirable Requirements

• Experience with Software Engineering tools and methods
• Experience within Defence or similar high assurance environments
• Experience with systems engineering practices
• Familiarity with JORN or OTHR capability
• Knowledge of relevant Defence engineering frameworks and standards
