Job summary

Department of Health WA External Careers seeks an AMA Trainee Psychiatrist Year 1–7 to join the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) in Western Australia. This recruitment pool is for fixed term full-time or part-time appointments within CAMHS, with supervision by a Consultant Child Psychiatrist and supervision under the WA Health AMA Industrial Agreement.

Eligibility includes medical registration, RANZCP training enrollment, and completion of required stages for entry into the Certificate

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for full registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Active enrollment in the RANZCP training program and eligible for the Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Demonstrated academic record, employment history and commitment to psychiatry training.

Responsibilities

  • Work across CAMHS services under supervision of a Consultant Child Psychiatrist.
  • Undertake clinical duties and on‑call duties as directed by the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Complete training requirements for Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Psychiatric Registrar - Advanced Trainee - Child Adolescent Psychiatrist
AMA Trainee Psychiatrist Year 1 – 7

This is a recruitment pool for fixed term full time (1.0FTE), 80 hours per fortnight or fixed term part time (0.5FTE), (40 hours) per fortnight appointment for up to 6 or 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 03/08/2027.

Position Profile:

The successful Advanced Trainee will be required to work across different services within CAMHS under the supervision of a Consultant Child Psychiatrist. They will undertake clinical duties and on call duties as directed by the Director of Clinical Services whilst attending to and completing their training requirements for Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as per the RANZCP training program.

Eligibility to Apply:
  1. This intake is only for trainees seeking entry into, or currently enrolled in, the Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  2. Prior to commencing the position, applicants should discuss their eligibility with the relevant Director of Advanced Training and, in their cover letter, outline their current training status and anticipated completion of all requirements for entry into the Certificate of Advanced Training by the position commencement date.

To be considered for these positions, applicants must:

  • Hold, or be eligible for, full registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Be actively enrolled in the RANZCP training program and be eligible to commence, or currently be undertaking, the Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Meet all requirements for entry into the Stage 3 Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the commencement date of the position, 1 February 2027.

This includes:

  • Completion of Stage 2 training requirements.
  • Successful completion of the Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) examination.
  • Successful completion of all other assessments and requirements specified by the relevant Advanced Training Committee for entry into the Certificate of Advanced Training.

Applicants must also demonstrate:

  1. Suitable academic record, employment history and commitment to training in psychiatry.
  2. Clinical competence in both General Medicine and Psychological Medicine.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the mandatory and specific requirements for the Certificate of Advanced Training.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of written and verbal communication appropriate to multidisciplinary psychiatric practice.
  5. Effective problem-solving skills, appropriate coping strategies and the ability to perform effectively in challenging and stressful situations.
  6. The ability to identify and resolve conflict constructively and work effectively with patients, carers and other professionals, including the capacity to utilise supervision appropriately.
Note:

Applicants who are unable to demonstrate how they intend to meet the eligibility requirements will be deemed unsuitable. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements by the commencement date of the position, 1 February 2027. Applicants who do not satisfy these requirements by that date will be deemed ineligible for appointment.
