Job summary

Noarlunga Acute General Medical ward is a purpose-built 24-bed unit at Noarlunga Hospital. We are seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality acute medical care in a multidisciplinary team using cutting-edge technology and a modern facility.

You will provide health promotion, support student learning, and participate in procedures for handling challenging cases. The role offers professional development opportunities within our new General Medicine unit and a supportive workplace.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current practicing certificate in Australia.
• Experience in acute care settings preferred.
• Ability to prioritise workload and recognise clinical changes.
• Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn and participate in student supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide health promotion and education to patients, carers and groups.
• Support nursing/midwifery practice, orientation for new staff and preceptorship of graduates.
• Contribute to management of deteriorating patients and timely escalation.
• Review decisions and assessments with supervising staff.
• Coordinate activities of students and assistants under guidance of a registered nurse.

About the role:

Noarlunga Acute General Medical ward is a purpose-built unit at the Noarlunga Hospital. With 24 beds dedicated to General Medicine to provide higher acuity and when needed end of life care for our local community, we practice a multidisciplinary model of care with skilled staff. This specialised unit is not limited by the boundaries of medical subspecialties.

Duties for the role will include:

• Provide health promotion and education, to patients/clients or groups and carers to improve the health outcomes of individuals,
• Support nursing/midwifery practice and learning experiences for students undertaking clinical placements, orientation for new staff and preceptorship of graduates,
• Contribute to procedures for effectively dealing with people exhibiting challenging behaviours,
• Review decisions, assessments and recommendations from less experienced Registered Nurses/ Midwives and Enrolled Nurses and students,
• Under the guidance of a registered nurse coordinates and guides activities of student enrolled nurses and assistants in nursing

About you:

• Effective communication skills including, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
• Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practising certificate,
• Ability to prioritise workload, recognise and report changes in clinical condition,
• Ability to be, creative, innovative, and flexible when approaching issues within a healthcare setting,
• Experience in working in an acute care setting and a willingness to learn and expand current skills,
• Experience in managing deteriorating patients
