Job description

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time and Permanent Part Time (Minimum 24 hours per week) Position Classification: Registered Nurse Remuneration: $41.22 - $57.88 per hour + Superannuation Location: Canterbury Hospital

Do you love the energy of a busy surgical ward? Acacia Ward at Canterbury Hospital is looking for Registered Nurses who enjoy variety, thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to grow their surgical skills with a supportive, positive team behind them.

About the Role Canterbury Hospital serves one of Sydney’s most culturally diverse communities, and our team reflects that. Our nurses come from a wide mix of cultural backgrounds, which helps us provide care that is respectful and responsive to every patient and their family.

Acacia is a 30-bed surgical ward caring for patients across orthopaedics, general surgery, ENT and urology. With high patient turnover, every shift brings something different. You’ll care for patients at every stage of their surgical journey, from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery and discharge planning. It’s a fantastic place to build broad, transferable surgical skills quickly, with plenty of support around you. Our team is lovely: diverse, friendly and positive.

We work closely with surgeons, junior medical officers, allied health and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality care. We also love a celebration. Our birthday board makes sure no one’s special day goes unnoticed. We come together for Christmas, farewells, maternity leave send-offs and the end of each JMO rotation.

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for the provision of patient centred; evidence informed nursing care that promotes identified health outcomes. The Registered Nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with individuals and the multidisciplinary healthcare team. We make sure you’re set up for success from day one. You’ll start with 2-3 days of corporate orientation, followed by a dedicated ward orientation day. You’ll then have 2 supernumerary shifts to get to know the ward, the team and our processes before taking on your own patient load.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).

  • Anyone with an interest in surgical nursing who loves a fast-paced, busy environment.

  • If you enjoy variety, stay calm under pressure and like working in a team that has each other’s backs, you’ll thrive on Acacia.

  • Ability to work a 7-day rotating roster (AM: 0700–1530, PM: 1330–2200, Night: 2130–0730)
