Job summary

Hunter New England Local Health District invites applications for a Registered Nurse in our brand-new Inpatient Unit opened in 2026. You will provide safe, compassionate care across acute medical and surgical presentations in a small rural team, with opportunities to develop broad clinical skills.

You will work with Enrolled Nurses, report to the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), use EPIC EMR, and participate in telehealth; excellent orientation, incentives up to $10,000, four weeks leave, and salary

About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in our brand-new Inpatient Unit, opened in 2026, with modern facilities and a welcoming team environment.

The Inpatient Unit provides care across a diverse range of presentations, including acute medical and surgical care, aged care and palliative care. Working in a small rural team means you will have the opportunity to develop broad clinical skills and provide holistic, person-centred care to patients and their families.

What You'll Be Doing

As the Registered Nurse in the Inpatient Unit, you will provide safe, effective and compassionate nursing care across a diverse patient population.

You Will
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a patient's clinical condition.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and scope of practice.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, carers and members of the healthcare team.
  • Work collaboratively with Visiting Medical Officers and utilise telehealth services to support patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic clinical documentation using the EPIC electronic medical record system.

You will generally work alongside one to two Enrolled Nurses and report to the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), with after-hours support provided by the In-Charge.

Essential Requirements

Hold current registration as a Registered Nurses through AHPRA prior to commencing employment.

Additional Information

Based on a minimum 18-month commitment to the position or the agreed duration of your contract. All payments to part-time and contract employees will be made on a pro-rata basis in accordance with the terms of your contract, including any approved extensions.
