Icon Cancer Centre Australia Geelong is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team on an 8-month part-time contract, delivering radiation oncology nursing care in a collaborative, research‑driven environment. The role involves assessing, planning and implementing patient care for those receiving radiotherapy, reporting to the Nurse Manager and supporting clinical trials and new therapies.

About the role:

This RN role is responsible for providing nursing care to patients receiving Radiotherapy and will report to the Nurse Manager.

The role involves assessing, reviewing and implementing care plans to patients receiving treatment. This is a parental leave part-time position for the duration of 8-months.

The Nursing role has a great level of autonomy, while still working within a close and supportive team. It is a greatly rewarding role which provides great opportunities to build positive rapports with our patients.

The role of a Registered Nurse at Icon is invaluable, through clinically assessing, providing education, supporting patients with physical side effects, emotional support and referrals to allied health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provision of patient centred radiation oncology cancer care to our patients and their families, ensuring an empathetic approach to patients needs are met in a timely manner.
• Monitor and treat patients for illness, lymphoedema or other side effects.
• Maintain standards by ensuring best practice protocols and clinical guidelines are implemented and followed.
• Contribute expert advice and demonstrate contemporary nursing knowledge and skill in oncology nursing practice in accordance with current legislation and professional standards and codes of practice
• Support the Nurse Manager in the day-to-day operations
• Support implementation of new systems, therapies and clinical trials.

Skills and Experience:

• Radiation Oncology Nursing experience highly desirable.
• Genuine interest in cancer care nursing and professional development within this space.
• Experience providing nursing support within a multi-disciplinary, patient centric environment
• Current AHPRA Nursing registration.
• Ability to apply excellent communication and problem-solving skills with both patients and colleagues.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining good working relationships.
• Experience documenting patient experiences and relaying patient feedback to Doctors and Nurse Managers.
• Capacity to learn and use multiple clinical administration systems.
• Commitment to learning and continual professional development.

Icon Cancer Centre Geelong has proudly provided the latest in radiation therapy technology and techniques close to home in a friendly and supportive environment since opening in 2020. Located on-site at Epworth Geelong Hospital, the centre offers cutting-edge radiation therapy treatment for all cancer types, delivered by an experienced, skilled, and close-knit team who are dedicated to ensuring patients and their loved ones receive support and exceptional care every step of the way. The service is a single-machine service with a Varian Truebeam STx linear accelerator, with HD-MLCs, Identify Surface Guidance system, and ExacTrac imaging. Icon Cancer Centre Geelong facilitates a number of MDT meetings in the region.
