Job summary

Icon Cancer Centre Geelong is seeking a Registered Nurse with Radiation Oncology experience to provide patient-focused care for those receiving radiotherapy. The role reports to the Nurse Manager and involves assessment, care planning, and education within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

This 8-month parental leave contract is part-time (2 days a week) with autonomy and opportunities to engage with new therapies and clinical trials while maintaining strong patient rapport.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with current AHPRA registration, prefer oncology experience.
• Experience in high-acuity or oncology settings is desirable.
• Strong communication and collaborative, multidisciplinary approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients receiving radiotherapy.
• Assess, review and implement care plans under Nurse Manager supervision.
• Support day-to-day operations and participate in trials and new therapies.
• Document patient experiences and relay feedback to doctors and managers.

Who are we looking for to join us?

Experience in Radiation Oncology or Medical Oncology is highly desirable; however, we also welcome candidates with backgrounds in high-acuity care, immunocompromised patient management, wound care, and palliative care. If you thrive in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary setting, this role offers the chance to work closely with a diverse team of nurses, radiation therapists, doctors, administrators, allied health professionals, and support networks.

About the role:

This RN role is responsible for providing nursing care to patients receiving Radiotherapy and will report to the Nurse Manager. The role involves assessing, reviewing and implementing care plans to patients receiving treatment. This is a parental leave part-time position for the duration of 8-months.

The Nursing role has a great level of autonomy, while still working within a close and supportive team. It is a greatly rewarding role which provides great opportunities to build positive rapports with our patients.

The role of a Registered Nurse at Icon is invaluable, through clinically assessing, providing education, supporting patients with physical side effects, emotional support and referrals to allied health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provision of patient centred radiation oncology cancer care to our patients and their families, ensuring an empathetic approach to patients needs are met in a timely manner.
• Monitor and treat patients for illness, lymphoedema or other side effects.
• Maintain standards by ensuring best practice protocols and clinical guidelines are implemented and followed.
• Contribute expert advice and demonstrate contemporary nursing knowledge and skill in oncology nursing practice in accordance with current legislation and professional standards and codes of practice
• Support the Nurse Manager in the day-to-day operations
• Support implementation of new systems, therapies and clinical trials.

Skills and Experience:

• Radiation Oncology Nursing experience highly desirable.
• Genuine interest in cancer care nursing and professional development within this space.
• Experience providing nursing support within a multi-disciplinary, patient centric environment
• Current AHPRA Nursing registration.
• Ability to apply excellent communication and problem-solving skills with both patients and colleagues.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining good working relationships.
• Experience documenting patient experiences and relaying patient feedback to Doctors and Nurse Managers.
• Capacity to learn and use multiple clinical administration systems.
• Commitment to learning and continual professional development.
