Darwalla Group is seeking a Rearing Farm Assistant Manager (2IC) in Killarney, Queensland. You will work closely with the Farm Manager to oversee a 6-shed rearing production farm, coordinating daily tasks and contributing to future Farm Manager development.

The role requires poultry experience, leadership ability, and a proactive approach to safety, training, and administration. This is a hands-on position offering growth within a small, multicultural team.

Qualifications

• Previous poultry industry experience is required.
• Ability to lead and coordinate field staff.
• Strong communication and team collaboration.
• Know-how of health, safety and environment standards.
• Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Willingness to learn and develop into Farm Manager responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Farm Manager in coordinating all farm activities to meet business objectives.
• Ensure all tasks are performed safely and compliantly.
• Support training and deployment of staff for specialist tasks (shed walks, fumigation).
• Monitor serology and ensure medications are administered correctly.
• Complete farm administration and reporting within deadlines as directed by Darwalla guidelines.
• Lead and engage a team to achieve operational goals.

About The Role

This assistant management position does not come up often! You will be an integral part of a small, effective & multi-cultural team, working side-by-side with an experienced Farm Manager to oversee and coordinate the daily operations at the Killarney Breeder Rearing Farm. As the Rearing Farm Assistant Manager (2IC), you will be a strong support to the Farm Manager with the operation of a 6-shed Rearing production farm in south-east Queensland. This is a development role for future Farm Managers. The position reports directly to the Farm Manager.

Duties

• Assist the Farm Manager in the co-ordination of all farm activities for the achievement of short and long-term business objectives.
• Ensure all tasks are undertaken in a safe manner.
• Assist the Farm Manager to ensure appropriately trained staff are available for specialist tasks , shed walks, fumigation etc.
• Under the direction of the Farm Manager, undertake serological monitoring and ensure that all medications are administered as required and in the appropriate manner.
• Ensure all farm administration duties are performed in accordance with Darwalla guidelines, including the completion of all relevant reports and documentation within specific time requirements.
• Assist the Farm Manager to engage and lead a team of people.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

• Previous poultry industry experience is required, preferably in Rearing
• Conversant with animal welfare standards, legislative obligations and Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
• Self-motivated to work independently and to manage multiple tasks
• A team player who is willing to learn to engage, manage and direct staff
• Strive to meet industry “best practice” standards
• Decision making and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
