Job summary

Darwalla Group is seeking a capable Rearing Farm Assistant Manager (2IC) to collaborate with the Farm Manager at the Killarney Breeder Rearing Farm in south-east Queensland. You will support daily operations of a 6-shed rearing farm, and this development role aims to prepare you for future Farm Manager responsibilities.

The role reports to the Farm Manager, with duties spanning coordination, safety, staff training, and administration in line with company guidelines.

Qualifications

• Previous poultry industry experience, preferably in rearing.
• Knowledge of animal welfare standards and health, safety and environment policies.
• Self-motivated to work independently and to manage multiple tasks.
• A team player who is willing to learn to engage, manage and direct staff.
• Decision making and problem solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Computer skills and a current driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Farm Manager in coordinating all farm activities to achieve short and long-term business objectives.
• Ensure all tasks are undertaken in a safe manner.
• Assist the Farm Manager to ensure appropriately trained staff are available for specialist tasks, shed walks, fumigation, etc.
• Under the direction of the Farm Manager, undertake serological monitoring and ensure medications are administered as required.
• Ensure all farm administration duties are performed in accordance with Darwalla guidelines, including timely completion of reports and documentation.
• Assist the Farm Manager to engage and lead a team of people.

About the Role

This assistant management position does not come up often!

You will be an integral part of a small, effective & multi-cultural team, working side-by-side with an experienced Farm Manager to oversee and coordinate the daily operations at the Killarney Breeder Rearing Farm.

As the Rearing Farm Assistant Manager (2IC), you will be a strong support to the Farm Manager with the operation of a 6-shed Rearing production farm in south-east Queensland. This is a development role for future Farm Managers.

The position reports directly to the Farm Manager.

Duties

• Assist the Farm Manager in the co-ordination of all farm activities for the achievement of short and long-term business objectives.
• Ensure all tasks are undertaken in a safe manner.
• Assist the Farm Manager to ensure appropriately trained staff are available for specialist tasks , shed walks, fumigation etc.
• Under the direction of the Farm Manager, undertake serological monitoring and ensure that all medications are administered as required and in the appropriate manner.
• Ensure all farm administration duties are performed in accordance with Darwalla guidelines, including the completion of all relevant reports and documentation within specific time requirements.
• Assist the Farm Manager to engage and lead a team of people.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

• Previous poultry industry experience is required, preferably in Rearing
• Conversant with animal welfare standards, legislative obligations and Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
• Self-motivated to work independently and to manage multiple tasks
• A team player who is willing to learn to engage, manage and direct staff
• Strive to meet industry "best practice" standards
• Decision making and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills

• Current Drivers Licence and Car
