Job summary

ACEREZ is a consortium comprised of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy appointed to design, deliver, operate and maintain the CWO REZ transmission network. The Real-Time Operations Engineer will be responsible for 24/7 real-time operations, monitoring SCADA/EMS and coordinating with AEMO, generators and NSPs to keep the grid secure as the CWO REZ energises in 2028.

You will develop procedures, test operational technology, oversee HV switching and contractor activities, and ensure safety rules

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or working towards it.
• Clear and concise communication skills.
• Knowledge of transmission system security, HV apparatus, protection & control, operating procedures, and safety rules.
• Basic understanding of power system modelling.
• Experience with SCADA/EMS operations.
• Willingness to undertake 24/7 shift work and fatigue management.

Responsibilities

• Monitor SCADA and EMS to ensure REZ system security responsibilities across voltage and thermal stability, system strength and harmonics; promptly respond to alarms.
• Liaise with AEMO, Generators and NSPs to safely manage planned outages.
• Emergency management and response to incidents as they arise, escalating issues as required.
• Communicate information accurately to team members, management, and stakeholders.
• Accurately log incidents, system status, and communications.
• Plan and execute planned outages; manage switching, safe isolation and earthing of HV equipment; review access requests and develop switching instructions.
• Create and maintain operational procedures.
• Develop and test operational technology with end users.
• Direct maintenance contractor to ensure works are safe and compliant with safety rules.

ACEREZ is a consortium, comprised of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy which has been appointed Preferred Network Operator by EnergyCo to design, deliver, operate and maintain the transmission line network for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).

The new transmission infrastructure, which will combine high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and related infrastructure, will enable generators such as solar and wind farms and energy storage providers in the CWO REZ to connect to the electricity grid, providing a reliable supply of clean, affordable electricity for households and businesses across NSW while helping to meet the state’s newly legislatedNet Zerotargets.

Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Real-Time Operations Engineer will be responsible for real-time 24/7 operations of the ACEREZ network, in accordance with TNSP responsibilities stipulated in NER Ch.4. This role is crucial to ensuring efficient monitoring, control, communication, and direction of remote and field switching operations in accordance with Transmission Network Safety Rules.

The role will encompass end-to-end outage planning and safe access to the network, as well as providing support to the wider Operations team.

The CWO network is on schedule to be energised in 2028. Therefore, this role will involve establishment of processes and systems for all of the below key responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitoring the SCADA and energy management system to ensure compliance with REZ system security responsibilities across voltage and thermal stability, system strength and harmonics, and to detect any network issues or emergencies via prompt response to alarms.
• Liaising with AEMO, Generators and NSPs to safely manage planned outages.
• Emergency management and response to incidents as they arise, to manage and mitigate situations, escalating issues as required.
• Communicating information accurately to team members, management, and stakeholders
• Accurate logging of incidents, system status, and communications.
• Planning and executing planned outages, management of switching and safe isolation and earthing of HV electrical apparatus. Including review and approval of requests for access, development of HV switching instructions, and creation of contingency plans.
• Operational procedure creation and maintenance.
• Development and end user testing of operational technology.
• Direction of our maintenance contractor to ensure works are carried out safely and in accordance with the safety rules.
