Job summary

Optiver is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Critical Engineering APAC team in Sydney. You will design, build and operate real-time, low-latency services that support our trading platform and work hands-on in C++.

The role offers mentorship, a performance-based bonus, training opportunities, and relocation support. You will collaborate with diverse teams to deliver reliable systems, improve resilience, and ship impactful solutions used by traders daily.

Qualifications

• OO programming in C++, or Java/C# with a strong desire to work in C++.
• Strong CS fundamentals: OS, data structures, algorithms and networking.
• Practical Linux/Unix proficiency.
• Familiarity with a scripting language (Python).
• 3+ years building and operating production software systems.
• Experience through full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment and operation.
• Proven track record shipping technically challenging problems to real users.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate components of Critical Engineering's APAC platform, delivering cross-team projects.
• Write production-grade C++ for real-time, low-latency services for trading at scale.
• Set technical direction and make architectural decisions under production load.
• Collaborate across domains to translate business problems into technical solutions.
• Manage deployments to reduce risk and provide production support.
• Maintain quality through code reviews, automated testing and observability.
• Drive continuous improvement, replacing legacy processes with better systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar across the team.
