Job summary

Saltbush Social Enterprises in Tennant Creek seeks a First Nations Male Mentor for the REAL Program to provide trauma-informed, culturally safe guidance to participants transitioning from custodial settings to community.

You will build strong relationships, deliver pre-release and post-release mentoring, and support education and employment pathways while promoting cultural reconnection and community wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage required.
• Male applicant due to genuine occupational qualification (GOQ) under relevant law.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain trust-based relationships with participants across pre- and post-release phases.
• Deliver pre-release mentoring within correctional facilities, including program participation.
• Provide intensive post-release outreach and daily support in the initial transition period.
• Co-develop Transitional Case Plans with participants and the multidisciplinary team.
• Support practical settlement needs including transport, appointments, documentation, Centrelink and banking.
• Assist with work readiness, resumes, interview practice and job retention mentoring.
• Identify and elevate risk and safeguarding concerns appropriately.
• Maintain accurate case notes, activity records and outcome data.
• Apply trauma-informed, culturally appropriate approaches to all interactions and coordinate with facilities.
