Main Duties of the Patient Facilitator - Andrew WardCore Purpose

The Patient Facilitator supports the wellbeing, comfort, and experience of patients on Andrew Ward through meaningful interaction, therapeutic engagement, and compassionate communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Distraction Interaction- Provide patients with engaging activities such as conversation, art, games, sensory stimulation, and time in communal spaces to reduce boredom, anxiety, and isolation.
  • Mealtime Support- Assist patients during meal times by offering encouragement, ensuring they have appropriate support, and helping them access drinks throughout the day to maintain hydration and comfort.
  • Patient Voice & Advocacy- Ensure patients feel heard and valued during their hospital stay by listening to their concerns, preferences, and wishes, and communicating these to the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • 'This Is Me' Documentation- Support patients in completing their personal \"This Is Me\" documentation to help staff understand their background, preferences, routines, and individual needs.
  • Family Liaison- Communicate with families to understand and uphold patient wishes, ensuring relatives feel informed, involved, and reassured.
  • Activity Planning- Create and deliver activity days that bring variety, stimulation, and enjoyment to patients, helping break up long periods spent within the bay area
