Job summary

Walcha Council is seeking a dedicated Ranger to manage companion animals, enforce local regulations, and provide relief coverage across Walcha Shire.

You will conduct on-site sewage inspections, respond to compliance requests, and educate the community on animal welfare and dumping, with a focus on field work (roughly 80% in the field) and office support as needed.

The role offers a competitive salary up to $95,000 AUD, 12% superannuation, relocation support, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or higher in Local Government (or progress toward)
• Dog handling experience or relevant certification
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
• Strong track record in community education and conflict resolution

Responsibilities

• Administer the Companion Animals Act and care for stray animals
• Investigate and resolve customer compliance requests and complaints
• Enforce Shire parking, footway, and public place regulations
• Conduct on-site sewage management inspections and issue approvals
• Deliver community education campaigns on animal welfare and dumping
• Provide shared on-call ranger coverage and leave relief
