Job summary

Walcha Council is seeking a field-focused officer to manage companion animals, parking, public compliance and sewage inspections across Walcha Shire. You will maintain community standards, care for stray animals and provide relief coverage for Uralla Council.

The role offers a competitive salary up to $95,000 plus 12% super and allowances, with 80% field time and 20% office work. On-call allowances, company vehicle and mobile connectivity are included.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or higher in Local Government (or progress toward).
• Dog handling experience or relevant certification.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.
• Strong track record in community education and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Administer the Companion Animals Act and care for stray animals.
• Investigate and resolve customer compliance requests and complaints.
• Enforce Shire parking, footway, and public place regulations.
• Conduct on-site sewage management inspections and issue approvals.
• Deliver community education campaigns on animal welfare and dumping.
• Provide shared on-call ranger coverage and leave relief.
