Job summary

Parks Victoria is seeking a Ranger to support in the Colac Otway area, delivering in-park services across a diverse landscape including heath, forest and volcanic plains. You will brushcut campgrounds, clear tracks and help protect natural and cultural values while engaging visitors and stakeholders.

You will work with Traditional Owners and volunteers, contribute to emergency response and fire management, and thrive in a safety-first, inclusive workplace within a collaborative team in Southwest

Qualifications

• Qualifications or practical experience in environmental management, conservation and land management, natural resource management, outdoor recreation, a trade, or a related field.
• Experience delivering on-ground works, projects or operational services within parks, public land, environmental management or a similar outdoor setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with visitors, community groups, volunteers and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while contributing to a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace.
• Sound problem-solving skills, initiative and the ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• A current Victorian Driver Licence and the ability to work outdoors in remote locations, including undertaking rostered weekend work when required.

Responsibilities

• Brushcutting a campground, clearing walking tracks and controlling weeds.
• Talk with visitors and engage with Traditional Owners, volunteers and community groups.
• Contribute to emergency response and recovery activities and support fire management operations as required.
• Work collaboratively within the Southwest Victoria team to protect environmental values and enhance visitor experiences.

Be involved with a diversity of jobs in the Great Otway National Park and local Lakes and ReservesWork across a diverse landscape including the heath, forest and volcanic plainsMake a real impact on conservation and visitor experiencesAbout the roleAs Ranger. the primary focus of your position is to plan for, and deliver, in park services as directed by the Ranger Team Leader to enable efficient and effective delivery at a district level. The Colac Otway area sits within a culturally and environmentally diverse landscape and the Rangers can be brushcutting a campground, clearing walking tracks and controlling weeds one minute to talking to a group of visitors the next.You will also work closely with Traditional Owners, volunteers, community groups and park visitors to help create positive experiences while protecting the natural and cultural values that make Victoria's parks so special.
