Job summary

Aurizon is seeking an experienced Leading Hand / Signalman to support day‑to‑day signalling and rail infrastructure maintenance for a small work group based at Telarah. You will coordinate employees, contractors and equipment to deliver safe, timely and cost‑effective outcomes across NSW and the South Maitland Railway networks.

The role operates Monday‑to‑Friday, typically 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, with a roster of four 10‑hour shifts in week 1 and a mixed schedule in week 2.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure (mandatory).
  • Experience leading rail infrastructure maintenance activities and coordinating a day‑to‑day work group.
  • Solid knowledge of rail infrastructure maintenance requirements, standards and safe work practices.
  • Experience preparing safety documentation, including pre‑starts and SWMS.
  • Experience coordinating contractors in a rail environment.
  • Signalling background or Track Inspector/Protection Officer experience valued.
  • Experience with track machines and related operation tickets desirable.
  • Heavy Vehicle Licence highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake, plan, organise, communicate and lead daily rail infrastructure maintenance activities.
  • Supervise safe, efficient coordination of team members, contractors, equipment and track machines.
  • Prepare and maintain safety documentation including pre‑starts and other controls.
  • Ensure work meets rail standards, quality, timeframes and budget expectations.
  • Support budget delivery through cost awareness and monitoring.
  • Promote a safe work environment and compliance with rail safety standards.
  • Support machine operation and servicing to maximise equipment availability.
  • Build effective relationships across the team and with customers.
