Job summary

Gemco Rail in Gladstone is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter for a 38-hour per week casual role. You will inspect and maintain rolling stock on-site and in-field, perform wheel changes, and trouble‑shoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems while complying with Rail Safety and OH&S regulations.

You will report to the Workshop Supervisor. The role requires a trade qualification, flexibility for overtime and weekends, and strong communication, safety, and organisational skills in a rail

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in mechanical trades.
• Able to work flexible hours including overtime, shift work and weekends.
• Experience with rolling stock/railway equipment.
• Exposure to hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Solid knowledge of health, safety and rail regulations.
• Strong general engineering knowledge.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Good organisational and planning skills.
• Railway track access/rail awareness certificate.

Responsibilities

• Perform full mechanical inspections of rolling stock to Australian standards.
• Complete wagon wheel changes when required.
• Conduct ECP SCAT testing and fault finding.
• Ensure all documentation and certification is completed accurately.
• Interface with transport company and shunting contractors during operations.
• Communicate inspection results to operations and Workshop Supervisor.
• Maintain workshop security and protect equipment and vehicles.
• Assist in repairs and servicing of rolling stock as directed by supervision.
