Job summary

Aurizon is seeking a Trainee Freight Operator for our Cloncurry depot. You will complete both theoretical and practical training, ensuring safe loading and unloading of goods, and learn to operate heavy lift machinery while inspecting rolling stock and rectifying faults.

You will need a C Class driver’s licence, with a high-risk forklift licence desired, and a strong commitment to safety. Expect day/night shifts, weekend work as required, and psychometric testing as part of recruitment.

Qualifications

• C Class Drivers Licence (mandatory).
• High Risk Forklift Licence (desirable).
• Strong commitment to safety.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Undertake the theoretical and practical components of the training program.
• Ensure that the loading and unloading of customer’s products are carried out efficiently and safely.
• Operate heavy lift machinery.
• Inspect rollingstock for faults.
• Rectify minor faults on rollingstock.
• Conduct brake testing of trains.
• Effectively communicate with other depot personnel face to face and via two-way radio.
• Undertake shunting and marshalling of trains.
