South Coast Radiology operates as Darling Downs Radiology in Toowoomba. This role leads the technical team, balances hands-on imaging with operations, and partners with Radiologists and clerical teams to deliver efficient patient care.

The Technical Area Manager oversees rostering, governance and staff development while maintaining high standards across safety and service quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level imaging degree or equivalent.
• Current AHPRA registration.
• Current QLD Radiation Use Licence.
• Minimum 5 years imaging experience.
• Leadership or team coordination experience preferred.
• Strong radiation safety and governance knowledge.
• Experience with RIS/PACS.

Technical Area Manager - Darling Downs Radiology

Are you an experienced CT, MR Radiographer or Sonographer ready to take the next step into leadership? South Coast Radiology operates as Darling Downs Radiology in Toowoomba. We are seeking an experienced clinical professional with a background in Radiography of Sonography to join our team in a key site leadership position. Combining hands‑on clinical work with operational and people leadership, you’ll oversee the day‑to‑day technical operations and administration of the practice. Supporting your team to deliver a safe, efficient and high‑quality imaging service. Working closely with Radiologists, the Regional Manager, technical and clerical teams, you’ll play an important role in ensuring smooth clinical workflow while building a positive, collaborative and patient‑focused team culture.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the person in charge, you will:

• Lead and support all technical staff and clinical assistants in the practice.
• Oversee the day‑to‑day technical operations and workflow of the practice.
• Remain hands‑on clinically, delivering high‑quality diagnostic imaging.
• Coordinate rostering, leave and appropriate team coverage.
• Work closely with Radiologists, clerical and clinical teams to support efficient patient flow.
• Provide technical guidance and support to the team.
• Partner with the Clerical in charge to ensure efficiency and prioritise patient experience.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training and development of staff.
• Maintain high standards across radiation safety, clinical governance and quality.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflow, service delivery and the patient experience.
• Work closely with the Regional Manager on operational priorities, resourcing and site requirements.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for an experienced Radiographer or Sonographer who combines strong clinical skills with a supportive and collaborative leadership style. You will have:

• Bachelor of Medical Imaging or equivalent
• Current AHPRA registration
• Current QLD Radiation Use Licence
• Minimum 5 years' medical imaging experience
• Strong clinical radiography experience
• Previous leadership or team coordination experience highly regarded
• Strong understanding of radiation safety and clinical governance
• Experience with RIS/PACS systems
• Excellent communication, organisation and people skills
• The ability to balance hands‑on clinical responsibilities with operational leadership
• A genuine interest in developing people and building a positive team culture
