Job summary

InfraBuild is seeking a Quality Operator at the Rooty Hill Steel Mill in Sydney. This full-time role runs Monday to Thursday, 6:00am–4:00pm, with overtime on Fridays. The role offers an hourly rate of $36.98 for a Level 1 Operator, with a clear progression path to higher operator levels.

You will assess steel quality using precision measuring tools, separate non-conforming bars, and train in equipment. Data entry and safe practices are essential, supported by a strong team culture.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality inspection or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to identify defects and maintain high-quality standards.
• Willingness to learn and work in a team with safety focus.
• Comfortable using measuring equipment and basic data entry.

Responsibilities

• Assess the quality of steel bundles using micrometers and verniers, offline from the rolling mill.
• Physically separate non-conforming steel bars from prime quality bars using safe lifting techniques.
• Receive training on measurement tools, strapping, lifting equipment and forklifts.
• Enter data into computers using Excel and production systems.
• Follow Safe Working Practices and support a safe, healthy workspace.
• Coordinate with other operators to ensure safe, efficient work.

We're looking for a motivated and collaborative Quality Operator to join our supportive team at the Rooty Hill Steel Mill.

This is a permanent full-time role. Working hours are 6:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday, with regular overtime opportunities on Fridays.

The hourly rate for the role will be $36.98, for a Level 1 Operator.

What you will be doing:

• Assessing the quality of steel bundles using micrometers, verniers and other measuring equipment, offline from the rolling mill.
• Physically lifting and separating non-conforming steel bars from prime quality bars using safe lifting techniques.
• Training will be provided in the safe use of measurement equipment, strapping tools, lifting equipment, and forklifts.
• Comfortably using computers for data entry, email, Excel and production systems.
• Ensuring Safe Working Practices are followed and encourage team members to operate in a safe and healthy workspace.
• Working closely with other operators, communicating clearly and maintaining awareness of team movements to ensure work is performed safely.
