Job summary

SME Powered Services is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to drive quality outcomes across large-scale electrical and infrastructure projects in Victoria. This hands-on role blends quality systems management with on-site engagement, auditing, and data-driven improvements to ensure first-time quality across multiple sites.

You will work with project teams to implement ITPs, SOPs and robust non-conformance management, reporting through leadership to drive continuous improvement and compliant

Qualifications

• Qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification or training highly regarded
• Current Driver's Licence
• Construction Industry White Card desirable
• Experience in electrical, mission-critical, data centre or large-scale construction projects

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and improve Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) across project portfolios.
• Create and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring version control, ownership and review processes are maintained.
• Tailor quality documentation to project-specific requirements, drawings, specifications and commissioning activities.
• Conduct regular site quality audits to verify installations against approved ITPs and quality standards.
• Identify quality issues, completion gaps and non-conformances, ensuring appropriate escalation and resolution.
• Lead root cause investigations and corrective action processes to prevent repeat occurrences.
• Capture and report quality performance metrics, including cost of poor quality, rework and project impacts.
• Configure and maintain quality data and reporting within relevant quality management tools and associated systems.
• Ensure quality records, evidence and project documentation remain accurate, current and auditable.
• Deliver quality reporting and performance insights to project and operational leadership teams.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project execution, compliance and commercial outcomes.

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to drive quality outcomes across large-scale electrical and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing site engagement with system development, using data and process improvement to improve project delivery, reduce rework, and ensure quality standards are consistently achieved.

About the Role

Reporting into the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for building, maintaining and continuously improving the quality management framework that supports project delivery across multiple sites.

You will work closely with project teams, supervisors, engineers and commissioning personnel to ensure inspection requirements, quality documentation, non-conformance management and site audits are effectively managed from mobilisation through to completion.

This is a hands‑on role that combines quality systems management, site auditing, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

What You'll Bring

Technical Experience

• Demonstrated experience in a Quality Assurance, Quality Systems, Quality Coordinator, Quality Engineer role.
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems within construction, electrical, engineering, infrastructure or data centre environments.
• Proven experience developing and auditing Inspection & Test Plans.
• Experience preparing, maintaining and implementing Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and contract requirements.
• Strong understanding of non-conformance management, root cause analysis and corrective action frameworks.
• Experience working with digital quality platforms, reporting systems and project management tools.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and implement process improvements.

Site Engagement

• Comfortable engaging with project teams, supervisors, subcontractors and operational leaders
• Ability to conduct site inspections and audits across active construction environments
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence positive quality behaviours
• Commitment to high standards, attention to detail and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
