Job description

Qualified Carpenter - Trainer & Assessor for Cert III Carpentry (Apprenticeship)
  • Part-time
  • Compensation: AUD 80,000 - AUD 85,000 - yearly
  • Use your trade expertise to shape confident, capable carpenters. Build careers, not just structures

Your experience in carpentry can make a lasting difference. At City-Wide Building and Training Services (CWBTS), you will use your practical knowledge to train, assess and mentor apprentices as they build the skills and confidence to succeed in the construction industry.

This is an opportunity to take your trade career in a new direction while remaining connected to worksites, employers and the realities of the industry. You will spend three days each week working across the Central Coast, Sydney and surrounding regions - combining onsite visits, apprentice coaching, assessment and relationship management.

Why this role could be your next move

    • Work and life balance: A three-day working week as permanent part-time employee
    • A new way to use your trade - share the skills and knowledge you have developed throughout your career.
    • Work with purpose - help apprentices become skilled, capable and job-ready carpenters.
    • Stay connected to industry - work directly with apprentices, employers and supervisors on site.
    • Variety and autonomy - travel between worksites and training locations rather than being based behind a desk.
    • Support on the road - receive a $17,000 FTE vehicle allowance, pro rata, including fuel and eTag costs.
    • Room to grow - there may be an opportunity to move into full-time employment as enrolments increase.

What your week could look like

One day, you might observe an apprentice completing framing work and assess their skills on site. The next, you could coach a learner who needs extra support, speak with an employer about an apprentice's progress, or complete assessment records and plan upcoming visits. No two weeks will be exactly the same, but every week will give you the chance to see apprentices develop.

Permanent part-time | 31.5 hours across three days |Sydney and Central Coast regions

$80,000-$85,000 Full Time Equivalent + superannuation| Vehicle Allowance$17,000 FTE, pro rata | includes fuel and eTag costs

    What you will do

As a Carpentry Apprentice Trainer and Assessor, you will deliver practical, industry-relevant training and assessment across workplace, pre-apprenticeship and school-based settings.

    • Visit apprentices at worksites and approved training locations.
    • Deliver engaging training grounded in current industry practice.
    • Observe and assess skills against competency requirements.
    • Coach apprentices, provide constructive feedback and help them stay on track.
    • Maintain regular contact with apprentices and monitor their progress.
    • Build trusted relationships with employers and workplace supervisors.
    • Maintain accurate assessment, progress and student records using digital systems.
    • Contribute to quality, compliance and continuous improvement activities.

You will primarily travel across Sydney and surrounding suburbs, including the Central Coast regions. Occasional further travel and overnight stays may be required, with approved associated costs covered by CWBTS.

    What you will bring

    • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116, TAE40122 or an accepted equivalent).
    • Strong current or recent carpentry experience and a clear understanding of quality workmanship and safe work practices.
    • The ability to communicate clearly and build rapport with apprentices, employers and colleagues.
    • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently across multiple locations.
    • Confidence using digital tools, or the willingness and ability to learn systems used for training, assessment and student records.
    • Australian working rights and a willingness to travel to worksites and training venues.
    • A Working with Children Check (Employee), or willingness to obtain one, and willingness to complete a Police Check and medical if required.
    • A commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance training.

    Highly regarded

    • Experience in supervising, coaching or mentoring apprentices.
    • Experience in delivering or assessing apprenticeship-based training.
    • Familiarity with learning management or student record systems such as Ready Skills and Canvas.
