Job summary

Umwelt Pty Ltd in Brisbane is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Environmental Consultant to lead our Queensland Resources Sector. You will combine technical leadership with commercial acumen to drive growth, manage complex projects and deliver sustainable outcomes.

You will mentor a team of consultants, shape sector strategy, and build strong client relationships while guiding proposals, bids and service delivery across critical minerals, energy transition and rehabilitation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Planning or a related discipline.
• Professional accreditation or eligibility to obtain (desirable).
• Extensive experience in resources project work, environmental approvals and management or impact assessment.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, assurance and peer review on complex projects.
• Strong commercial experience developing sector strategies, bids and business development initiatives.
• Extensive knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and approval pathways.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing technical staff.
• Strong ability to balance resources, budgets, risk and growth while delivering client outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and shape the growth of Umwelt’s QLD Resources Sector, focusing on critical minerals, energy transition and rehabilitation.
• Provide senior technical advice across environmental approvals, impact assessment, compliance and project delivery.
• Set the technical direction for resources projects, including scoping, planning and quality assurance.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality outcomes while managing client, regulatory and budget constraints.
• Build trusted client relationships, identify opportunities and support bids and pursuit strategies.
• Mentor team members and promote technical excellence and growth across the group.
