As a leading Australian environmental consulting business, we are passionate about delivering sustainable outcomes for our clients, communities and the environment. With over 30 years of experience and 8 office locations nationally, Umwelt has built a strong reputation for delivering high quality environmental and social advisory services across Australia. Supported by strong and sustained growth, our QLD business has become a recognised leader in environmental and planning consulting, both within the state and across Australia.

About the Role

Due to continued growth, Umwelt Brisbane is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Environmental Consultant to lead and expand our QLD Resources Sector.

In this senior leadership role, you will combine strong technical expertise, commercial acumen and client relationship management to drive growth across Queensland's resources market. Drawing on your experience in environmental approvals, impact assessment, compliance, environmental management and multidisciplinary project delivery, you will provide strategic advice to clients and lead the successful delivery of complex projects.

You will play a key role in shaping sector strategy, strengthening client relationships and identifying new business opportunities. Working closely with executive leaders and industry stakeholders, you will develop pursuit strategies, lead proposals and bids and grow Umwelt’s presence across the resources sector.

As a senior technical leader, you will provide oversight and review of complex environmental projects, ensuring high‑quality, commercially focused outcomes that meet client and regulatory requirements. You may also act as Project Manager or Project Director, overseeing project performance, budgets, resourcing, risk management and delivery.

A key focus of the role is developing people and building capability across the team. You will mentor and support consultants at all levels, foster collaboration and knowledge sharing, and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

As part of Umwelt’s national business, you will connect clients with our broader planning, environmental, heritage, social and engagement expertise while upholding our values, safety culture, quality standards and commitment to exceptional client outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sector Leadership: Lead and shape the growth of Umwelt’s QLD Resources Sector, with a focus on critical minerals, energy transition, mine closure, rehabilitation and sustainability
  • Technical Leadership: Provide trusted senior technical advice across environmental approvals, impact assessment, environmental management, compliance and complex multidisciplinary project delivery
  • Project Direction: Set the technical direction for resources projects, including scoping, planning, delivery, specialist coordination, issue resolution and quality assurance
  • Project and Commercial Delivery: Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver highquality outcomes while balancing client, regulatory, commercial, resourcing and timeframe requirements
  • Client and Market Growth: Build trusted client and stakeholder relationships, identify new opportunities and support bids, proposals and pursuit strategies
  • National Collaboration: Connect QLD resources opportunities with Umwelt’s broader planning, environmental, heritage, social and engagement capabilities
  • Team Capability: Mentor and develop team members, setting clear standards and supporting technical excellence, accountability and growth.
