Job summary

KB Seafood Co is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to lead QA and Food Safety at our Coolaroo processing site. You will ensure products meet quality, safety and compliance standards and drive continuous improvement across operations.

The role requires strong leadership, HACCP knowledge and experience with audits, CAPA and regulatory requirements, contributing to operational excellence and customer confidence.

Qualifications

• Degree or relevant qualification in Food Science or related discipline.
• Proven experience in QA or Food Safety leadership in food manufacturing.
• In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and standards (e.g., HACCP, GFSI).
• HACCP Qualification and experience applying HACCP Principles.
• Experience managing audits and corrective action programs.
• Demonstrated experience leading a QA team.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on and self-motivated Quality Assurance Manager to lead our QA and Food Safety functions in our seafood processing operations at Coolaroo. Reporting to the National QA Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring that all KB products meet the established standards of quality, food safety, and compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a quality professional with strong technical expertise, leadership capability and a practical understanding of food manufacturing processes to make a meaningful contribution to product quality, food safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and maintain the site’s Quality Assurance and Food Safety Management Systems.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian food safety legislation, regulatory requirements, HACCP principles and applicable customer and certification standards.
• Oversee the development, implementation and review of quality policies, procedures, work instructions and food safety programs for the site.
• Manage internal, external, customer and regulatory audits, including corrective action follow-up.
• Monitor product quality, food safety risks, microbiological results, product testing and monitoring programs.
• Investigate customer complaints, product non-conformances and quality incidents, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Oversee product traceability, mock recalls, product recalls and withdrawal procedures.
• Work cohesively with the other two interstate KB Seafood Co sites, Production, Operations, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to maintain quality standards throughout the processing operation.
• Lead, coach and develop the QA team, building a strong culture of food safety, quality ownership and continuous improvement.
• Review quality trends, analyse data and provide regular reports and recommendations to management.
• Support new product development, product specifications, labelling compliance and customer approval processes.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A degree or relevant qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or a related discipline
• Proven experience in a Quality Assurance or Food Safety leadership role within food manufacturing environment.
• In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and standards (e.g., HACCP, GFSI, CFMSR, WSEP, BAP, MSC/ASC)
• HACCP Qualification and experience in application of HACCP Principles.
• Experience managing audits, regulatory compliance, customer requirements and corrective action programs.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing a QA team.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and root-cause investigation skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across operational teams.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach and the ability to balance quality standards with operational requirements.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
