Job summary

The Queensland Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support – Belgian Gardens QLD is seeking a Purchasing Officer to oversee stores ordering, purchasing and inventory across youth detention facilities, ensuring compliance with financial management practices and quality assurance provisions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in purchasing and inventory management.

Job description

Queensland Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support – Belgian Gardens QLD

As Purchasing Officer, you will specifically:

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Coordinate and oversee all stores ordering, purchasing, and supply inventory in accordance with the Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support Financial Management Practices Manual and quality assurance provisions, including coordination of the quarterly stores stocktake processes (Agency Procurement Procedures).
• Supervise the Stores Officers to ensure an efficient and cost-effective warehousing and delivery service is provided to the youth detention centres.
• Implement, maintain and evaluate all stores management policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, including training staff on correct lifting techniques and coordinating appropriate storage and handling practices for goods with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Maintain effective supplier and stakeholder relationships to ensure service delivery excellence and report supplier performance to your line supervisor to support effective purchasing and contract performance.
• Maintain efficient and accountable computerised financial and inventory management systems, manage low-value, low-risk purchasing activities from existing supplier arrangements, and administer staff uniforms in line with departmental procedures.

Role specific/technical skills

• Proven experience in purchasing functions and inventory management processes, with strong IT skills, particularly in Inventory Management systems, and proficiency in creating and managing files in Excel and Word.
• Possess a minimum of Level 1 Procurement Certification or the ability to acquire this.
• You understand the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have a demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively, and with humility, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Mandatory requirements:

• Travel is a requirement of this position; therefore, it is a requirement that the applicant hold a current “C” Class Drivers Licence.
