Job description

About us

Cancer Council NSW (CCNSW) is a community funded and focused not for profit. We are the largest cancer charity in NSW and our point of difference is that we work across every area of every cancer, from research right through to support.

At CCNSW we understand that nothing feels better than doing work you really care about. As Australia’s leading organisation supporting all people impacted by all cancers, we understand how good it feels to make a difference. We know that almost 1 in 2 Australians are affected by cancer during their lifetime. By joining the passionate team at CCNSW, you’ll know that each day the work you’re doing will positively impact people in your life and Australia.

About the team

The role is based at Cancer Council NSW, within the Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) Division. CISS aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no one needs to face cancer alone. This division assists people as they navigate cancer, easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.

As part of the Commonwealth-funded Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP), Cancer Council will deliver a national cancer navigation service, expanding our existing cancer information and support service (13 11 20) to include new digital navigation and support offerings. During the implementation phase of the program, Cancer Council will expand the Cancer Information team to enable the provision of new and existing information resources, including tailored resources developed with priority populations and new multimodal content.

About the role:

The role of Publishing Editor works to ensure that people affected by cancer have access to up-to-date, credible, evidence-based information. This role researches, reviews, writes, edits and proofreads online and printed information for people with cancer, their families and carers.

  • Revise, update and edit content for the Understanding Cancer series and other consumer information resources (online and print) in collaboration with designers and other team members
  • Research, write content and collaborate with designers and other team members to develop new information resources for people affected by cancer, potentially including Easy Read resources, visual content, and tailored resources co-designed with priority populations
  • Contribute as required to the development of information in multimodal formats, such as podcasts and videos
  • Extensively consult and liaise with consumers, health professionals and other stakeholders to ensure that information is accurate, up to date, high quality, clear, accessible and inclusive
  • Follow Cancer Council governance processes to ensure appropriate Cancer Council stakeholders and decision-makers are consulted in a timely manner, and required approvals are in place at all stages
  • Provide support to other team members – for example, by providing feedback, subediting or proofreading their work
  • Follow an in-house style guide and any required editorial, administrative and other processes and procedures, and contribute to keeping these up to date
  • Ensure all allocated projects are completed within the scheduled timeframes, and project milestones are met
  • Assist as required in any evaluation of information resources
