Job description

Lead the delivery of essential infrastructure that keeps Noosa thriving.

Located at the northern end of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Noosa Shire spans 871km² and is home to more than 54,000 residents. Recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, around 35% of the Shire is protected as national park, reserve or conservation area. From the iconic beaches, and coastal trails of Noosa Heads and Noosa National Park, to the picturesque lakes, waterways and unique Noosa Everglades, the region offers an exceptional natural environment. The Shire also encompasses the charming hinterland towns of Cooroy, Pomona and Kin Kin, providing a relaxed rural lifestyle alongside the sophistication of Hastings Street, Noosa Main Beach, boutique shopping and high-end dining.

Renowned as one of Australia’s most liveable destinations with its stunning beaches, diverse landscapes, strong community and outstanding lifestyle, the Noosa region is a truly special place to live, work and make a difference.

The Position:

In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the delivery of civil, streetscapes and parks infrastructure maintenance, operations, minor projects and renewal programs across the Noosa Shire, leading a team of up to six direct reports and influencing a broader operational workforce of approximately 120 staff.

With a strong focus on service delivery, innovation and continuous improvement, you will help ensure Council’s infrastructure meets community needs while protecting Noosa’s unique environment. More than an infrastructure role, this is an opportunity to shape and protect the places that define the Noosa lifestyle.

Skills and Experience:

Council is seeking a leader who combines engineering expertise with a deep appreciation of the diverse communities across the region, along with a strong commitment to valuing and preserving Noosa’s coastal foreshores, parks, streetscapes and public spaces and the unique character and lifestyle they provide. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or an equivalent management degree, along with RPEQ registration or demonstrated progress towards RPEQ registration.
  • Substantial senior leadership experience in civil operations, infrastructure or operational service delivery, including responsibility for managing and leading outdoor operational workforces.
  • A practical and solutions-focused approach to engineering, with the ability to provide clear direction and make sound decisions in an operational environment.
  • A collaborative and respectful leadership style, with the ability to build trust with operational staff, listen to their knowledge and experience, and bring people with you through change and continuous improvement.
  • Strong program and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, resources, and deadlines.
  • Proven experience in asset management, including the implementation and continuous improvement of asset management systems, processes and practices.
  • Well-developed financial and budget management skills, with experience managing operational budgets and resources effectively.
  • Experience within a local government environment will be highly regarded.
  • Current C Class Driver Licence.
Why Noosa?

This is an opportunity to join a Council where the work is complex, diverse and genuinely interesting, combining the infrastructure and service delivery challenges of a larger city with the advantages of a regional community. Council has strong budgets with a desire to deliver quality infrastructure and services for its community.

Benefits:

The position is being offered under a 4-year performance-based contract with an attractive remuneration package to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
