Job summary

Mind Australia in the Bass Coast region is seeking resourceful Psychosocial Disability Support Workers for permanent part-time roles in Wonthaggi. You will deliver personalised support services and work with participants to support recovery and daily living skills.

The role involves one-to-one support, group workshops and developing group programs, along with coordinating with families and carers to strengthen connections and community participation.

Qualifications

• Minimum Certificate III in Mental Health, Peer Work or related field.
• Experience working with people with psychosocial disabilities and complex needs.
• Awareness of NDIS and required screenings (NDIS Worker Screening Check, WWCC).
• Unrestricted Australian driver's licence and ability to use a personal vehicle for residents' transport.
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Responsibilities

• Support participants through recovery-focused, person-centred approaches.
• Deliver one-to-one and group support in line with recovery goals.
• Develop and deliver group work programs to build skills and wellbeing.
• Support families and carers with information, education and referrals.
• Contribute to daily operations, housekeeping duties and service flow.

About the Service

The Housing with Support program is a service designed for adults living with severe and enduring psychosocial disability and co-occurring concerns and/or dual disabilities which have impacted their capacity to live independently in the community.

Participants are supported individually and in a group setting to better understand and develop strategies to manage the impacts of their mental health, enhance personal and daily living skills, create meaningful social and community connections, strengthen relationships with families and friends and build confidence and capacity to live independently.

About the role

We are seeking resourceful and collaborative Psychosocial Disability Support Workers for permanent part time (22.5 hours per week), opportunities located in Wonthaggi. You will deliver personalised support services and work collaboratively with participants to achieve their recovery and capacity building goals through one-to-one support, shared supports, workshops and group work facilitation to enhance recovery, personal growth and activities of daily living.

Key responsibilities

• Work with participants to imagine and live a meaningful life by supporting them through a staged approach to recovery


• Plan and develop group work programs that will assist participants to build their skills, focus on their recovery, wellbeing and capacity building


• Support family and carers through understanding their concerns and the provision of information, education and referrals


• Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for participants that facilitate them to live the life of their choosing in their own community


• Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the service through undertaking a range of housekeeping duties

What you’ll bring

• Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate III) in Mental Health, Peer Work, or other health related field as designated by Mind


• Experience and expertise in working directly with people with psychosocial issues, complex needs and with their families and carers


• Experience in assessing need and working collaboratively to plan goal focused recovery using evidence informed approaches and tools to meet participants’ needs.


• Awareness and understanding of the NDIS is required


• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check Clearance and WWCC


• Unrestricted Australian driver’s license, and ability to utilise personal vehicle to transport residents as required


• Current First Aid and CPR certifications and ability to perform these duties as required as part of the role
