Job summary

Cancer Council Queensland is seeking a part-time psychologist to join our Psychology Service at the Toowoomba Lodge. You will provide evidence-based counselling via phone, video and face-to-face, supporting clients affected by cancer and their families.

The role offers a diverse caseload, access to supervision, and ongoing professional development within a trauma-informed, strengths-based team across Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and regional sites.

Qualifications

  • Registered psychologist with AHPRA.
  • Experience in health/clinical or counselling psychology, preferably oncology.
  • Skills in delivering evidence-based interventions by phone, video, or face-to-face.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based counselling interventions by phone, video or in-person.
  • Manage a diverse caseload of clients affected by cancer.
  • Attend local cancer-relevant community events and CPD activities.
  • Access supervision with senior psychologists and participate in peer supervision.

About the role

As part of CCQ's Psychology Service, our psychologists deliver evidence-based counselling interventions via phone, video conferencing and face to face. Our clients are people impacted by cancer – including the person diagnosed with cancer, the person providing care to a diagnosed person, or a family member. Our programs promote the psychological adjustment of people affected by cancer.

This role is a part-time, permanent position (22.5 hours per week, paying $53-$55 per hour) and can be based out of our Toowoomba Lodge.

We are a trauma-informed, and strengths-based, service. Our team is comprised of Health and Clinical Psychologists, currently located in Brisbane, Cairns, and Townsville, but with the aim to place a psychologist in more regional areas to increase availability and accessibility to persons experiencing cancer.

As a regionally based psychologist, you will receive a diverse caseload, and will have the opportunity to attend local, cancer-relevant community events. You will have access to free individual supervision with our Senior Psychologist (towards your CPD hours) as well as peer supervision amongst the team, both monthly. We also offer professional development opportunities.

About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Registration as a psychologist with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  • Experience in health, clinical or counselling psychology, preferably in oncology.
  • Skills in the delivery of evidence-based telephone, video teleconferencing and/or face-to-face psychological interventions
  • Be eligible for a Medicare Provider
  • An understanding of the psychosocial impact of cancer on individuals, partners and families, as well as experience or training focused in the area of bereavement, grief and loss is highly valued
  • Postgraduate tertiary qualification in psychology is desirable but not essential.
