Job summary

Educare Group is seeking a psychologist to work with children, young people and families at our Charlestown clinic in NSW. The role is part-time, with both employment and contractor options.

You will conduct developmentally appropriate therapy, lead standardised assessments, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including a child psychiatrist, OT, speech pathologist and behaviour support practitioners.

Qualifications

• General registration with AHPRA and eligibility for a Medicare provider number.
• Experience assessing children and young people with standardised assessments.
• Experience providing therapy to children and families and working with parents/caregivers.
• Clear, timely report writing.
• Knowledge of child safeguarding, protection and mandatory reporting obligations.
• Collaborative approach within shared governance and case notes.

Responsibilities

Psychologist: Children, Young People and Families
Part-time, Charlestown NSW | Employee or contractor

Educare has worked with children, young people and families from our Charlestown clinic since 1999. Psychologists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and behaviour support practitioners all work from the same building, along with a child psychiatrist for children who also need psychiatric review. A child who needs more than one kind of support can get it in one place. Our referrals come from GPs, paediatricians, schools, the NDIS and families who approach us directly.

We are part of the Educare Group, which also includes Mind-Care, our adolescent and adult mental health service.

The role

We are looking for a psychologist who wants a caseload built around children, young people and families, with assessment as a regular part of the week rather than something fitted in between therapy sessions. You will have the rooms, the test library and the administrative support to do assessment work well, and colleagues along the hall to think a case through with.

The role is part-time at our Charlestown clinic. We are open to both employment and contractor arrangements.

You will:

• Provide developmentally appropriate therapy to children and young people, and work with their parents and carers
• Conduct assessments with children and young people, including cognitive and learning, developmental, autism, ADHD and adaptive functioning assessments
• Complete NDIS access and functional capacity assessments and reports for children and young people
• Provide feedback sessions and practical recommendations that families and schools can use
• Work alongside our child psychiatrist, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and behaviour support practitioners where a child sees more than one clinician

Assessment is central to this role

Assessment is a regular part of the week rather than an occasional extra, so we are looking for someone who is confident administering, scoring and interpreting standardised child assessments and writing reports that answer the referral question.

You will have access to our in-house child assessment library and admin support with bookings, intake and report coordination.

Adult work is optional

The caseload is built around children, young people and families. If you would also like some adolescent or adult therapy or assessment work, that is available through Mind-Care. If you would prefer to work only with children and families, that works for us as well.

About you

Essential

• General registration with AHPRA and eligibility for a Medicare provider number
• Experience assessing children and young people, including standardised assessment and report writing
• Experience providing therapy to children and young people, and working with parents and carers
• Clear, timely report writing
• Current, working knowledge of child safe practice, child protection and mandatory reporting obligations
• A collaborative approach and comfort working within shared governance, including same-day case notes, meeting attendance and file audits

Desirable

• Area of practice endorsement, for example educational and developmental or clinical psychology
• Training in structured autism assessment tools
• Experience with early childhood developmental assessment
• NDIS reporting experience for children, including access requests and plan reassessment
• Experience working with schools, early childhood services or paediatricians

All clinicians complete credentialing before commencement, including a Working with Children Check, National Police Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.
