Job summary

Akron Group NT in Darwin seeks a reliable Property Maintenance Handyman to perform general repairs across residential properties, including government housing. The role demands a practical, hands-on approach, independent work, and timely, quality fixes to a high standard.

You will tackle flyscreen, door hardware, plasterboard, cornice, cabinetry, flooring and other repairs, while keeping accurate records and ensuring safety. Company vehicle provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in residential property maintenance or general building repairs.
• Proficient in flyscreen repairs, door hardware replacement, plasterboard patching, cornice repairs, cabinetry repairs and minor flooring repairs.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance jobs.
• Good problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Professional communication with tenants, clients and team members.
• Current Australian driver’s licence.
• Construction White Card preferred.
• Own basic hand tools desirable.

Responsibilities

• Flyscreen Repairs: Replace flyscreen mesh, repair frames and replace damaged screens.
• Locks & Hardware: Repair and replace door locks, handles, hinges, latches and other door hardware.
• Door Repairs: Repair, adjust, install and replace internal and external doors.
• Gyprock Repairs: Patch holes, repair plasterboard and prepare surfaces for painting.
• Cornice Repairs: Install, repair and replace damaged cornices.
• Clotheslines: Install, repair and replace clotheslines, restringing.
• Cabinetry Repairs: Repair kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, including edging strips, hinges and handles.
• Vinyl Flooring: Repair and replace damaged vinyl tiles, surface prep and installation.
• General Property Maintenance: Minor carpentry, patching, sealing and building repairs.
• Identify maintenance issues and complete repairs promptly and cost-effectively.
• Maintain records and photographs of completed works.
• Ensure work is completed safely and to a professional standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Flyscreen Repairs: Replace flyscreen mesh, repair frames and replace damaged screens.

• Locks & Hardware: Repair and replace door locks, handles, hinges, latches and other door hardware.

• Door Repairs: Repair, adjust, install and replace internal and external doors.

• Gyprock Repairs: Patch holes, repair damaged plasterboard and prepare surfaces for painting.

• Cornice Repairs: Install, repair and replace damaged cornices, including setting and finishing.

• Clotheslines: Install, repair and replace clotheslines, including restringing and replacing damaged components.

• Cabinetry Repairs: Repair kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, including replacing damaged melamine edging strips, hinges, handles and other fittings.

• Vinyl Flooring: Repair and replace damaged vinyl floor tiles, including surface preparation, cutting and installation.

• General Property Maintenance: Undertake minor carpentry, patching, sealing, adjustments and general building repairs.

• Identify maintenance issues and complete repairs in a timely and cost-effective manner.

• Maintain accurate records and photographs of completed works.

• Ensure all work is completed safely and to a professional standard.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in residential property maintenance, carpentry or general building repairs.

• Competent in flyscreen repairs, door hardware replacement, plasterboard patching, cornice repairs, cabinetry repairs and minor flooring repairs.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance jobs.

• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to communicate professionally with tenants, clients and team members.

• Current Australian driver's licence.

• Construction White Card preferred.

• Own basic hand tools desirable.
