Job summary

ARTC is seeking an experienced professional to plan and optimise track access for maintenance and projects across the national rail network. The role focuses on coordinating possession requests, maintaining train path continuity, and collaborating with asset maintainers and project teams.

Based in Australia, the position requires strong planning, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and optimise track access for maintenance and project works with minimal train disruption
  • Assess and coordinate track access and possession requests
  • Develop temporary variations to the Master Train Plan and coordinate stakeholder consultation
  • Collaborate with asset maintainers, project teams and operators for track access and train path continuity
  • Represent ARTC in possession planning forums and project meetings
  • Monitor possessions and their impact on train running; suggest improvements
  • Prepare possession planning reports, recommendations and records
  • Provide operational advice to Network Coordination on possessions and project issues

About The Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

About The Opportunity
  • Plan and optimise track access for maintenance and project works while minimising impacts on train operations across the Network.
  • Assess and coordinate track access and possession requests, ensuring works are planned within operational limits.
  • Develop temporary variations to the Master Train Plan and coordinate stakeholder consultation and communication.
  • Collaborate with asset maintainers, project teams, operators to secure effective track access and maintain train path continuity.
  • Represent ARTC at possession planning forums, project meetings and stakeholder discussions.
  • Monitor possessions and their impact on train running, providing recommendations to improve planning and approval processes.
  • Prepare possession planning reports, recommendations and supporting records.
  • Provide operational advice and support to Network Coordination on planned possessions, altered train paths and project-related issues.
What do we want from you?
  • Rail freight or logistics experience, with an understanding of the ARTC and Melbourne Metro Rail Networks.
  • Experience or knowledge in train and possession planning.
  • Strong planning, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and information management systems.

Location requirement: Applicants must be based in either Newcastle or Adelaide.
