About the role
AEMO’s System Design division is responsible for planning the power system through a period of unprecedented transformation. Our forecasting and planning activities support the energy sector’s transition to a net zero future, informing decisions and investment needed to maintain a reliable, secure and operable power system at the lowest cost.
The Forecasting Department delivers major statutory and strategic publications that support decision making across Australia’s electricity and gas systems, including the Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) and Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO).
As Project Manager – Forecasting Publications, you’ll lead the integrated delivery of this important portfolio, bringing together technical expertise, project disciplines and stakeholders across the business to ensure high-quality publications are delivered effectively and meet AEMO’s regulatory obligations.
This role can be based from our offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.
What you will be doing
You’ll lead the end-to-end planning and delivery of complex forecasting publications, from initial scoping and consultation through to approval, publication and compliance reporting. Working closely with Managers, technical leads and cross functional teams, you’ll coordinate schedules, resources, budgets and governance to keep delivery on track.
You’ll maintain and proactively communicate a clear view of responsibilities, priorities, dependencies, risks and issues, helping teams navigate challenges and supporting timely decision making. Building strong relationships across AEMO will be key to ensuring expectations, responsibilities and deliverables remain clear.
You’ll also help strengthen project delivery across Forecasting, introducing practical and consistent tools and ways of working, improving the use of data, digital and AI-enabled tools, and supporting teams to share learnings and continuously improve.
As a newly created position, this is an exciting opportunity to shape how Forecasting’s publications are delivered. Working alongside Managers and technical SMEs, you’ll bring greater structure and oversight across multiple publications, keeping delivery on track and helping teams navigate issues and changing priorities. You’ll have the scope to establish practical project management approaches that work within a highly technical, evolving and responsive environment.
What you will bring to the role
Education/Certificates
Tertiary qualification in project management, engineering, business, economics or a related discipline.
Project management certification or further relevant education is highly regarded.
Technical knowledge of demand forecasting or market modelling is highly desirable.
Experience and Knowledge
Strong experience leading complex projects, programs or portfolios in energy, infrastructure, engineering, regulatory or similarly complex environments.
Strong understanding of the energy planning and regulatory landscape, with the technical awareness to engage effectively with forecasting, modelling and engineering specialists.
Proven ability to lead multiple interdependent workstreams and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong capability across governance, scheduling, resourcing, budgets, risk, assurance and decision-making.
Ability to understand and communicate complex technical, forecasting and regulatory matters to senior leaders and stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to improve delivery practices using technology, data analytics and AI-enabled tools.
