Job summary

Mettle in Sydney is seeking a Project Manager to lead commercial, fitout or refurbishment projects from award to handover, coordinating client, consultants and subcontractors to deliver on time and to standard.

You will manage program, budget, quality and safety, act as the main contact, and drive variations and closeout while guiding the site team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience delivering commercial construction projects in a Project Management role.
• Strong understanding of programming, budgeting and cost control.
• Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Engineering, Building or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the project program, sequencing trades, deliveries and inspections.
• Lead site meetings and coordinate the project team and site staff.
• Oversee subcontractor and supplier performance and resolve issues.
• Main point of contact for client and consultants; manage expectations and communication.

• Review variations, progress claims and contractual correspondence.
• Monitor safety, quality and environmental compliance on site.
• Identify and manage project risks and escalate when needed.
• Manage practical completion, defects and project close out.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Sydney team.

You will take full responsibility for the delivery of a commercial, fitout or refurbishment project, from award through to handover. Leading the site team and working closely with the client, consultants and subcontractors, you will manage program, budget, quality and safety to bring the project in on time and to the standard our clients expect.

You will be the main point of contact for the project, making the day to day decisions that keep it moving and escalating the ones that need support from the wider Mettle team.

What You’ll Do

As Project Manager, you will:

• Develop and manage the project program, sequencing trades, deliveries and inspections to keep the project on track
• Lead site meetings and coordinate the project team and other site staff
• Oversee subcontractor and supplier performance, resolving issues as they arise
• Act as the primary point of contact for the client and consultants, managing expectations and communication throughout delivery
• Own the project budget, including cost control, forecasting and monthly commercial reporting, working closely with the Contract Administrator
• Review and approve variations, progress claims and contractual correspondence
• Monitor compliance with safety, quality and environmental requirements across the site
• Identify and manage project risks, escalating issues that need support from senior management
• Manage practical completion, defects rectification and project close out
  
  

What You’ll Bring

You are an experienced construction professional who is comfortable owning the delivery of a project and leading the team around it. You will also bring:

• 5+ years' experience delivering commercial construction projects in a Project Management role
• Strong understanding of construction programming, budgeting and cost control
• Strong understanding of head contracts and subcontract administration, including standard form contracts
• Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Engineering, Building or a related discipline
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop project teams
• Strong risk management skills, with the ability to make decisions under pressure
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to represent Mettle to clients and consultants
• Proficiency in project scheduling software, such as MS Project and the Microsoft Office suite
• Experience using project management and reporting software, with Jobpac experience highly regarded
• Current driver's licence and White Card
