Mettle is an Australian company delivering construction, refurbishment, defence and fitout projects. We are seeking an Estimating Manager to lead our Brisbane estimating team and shape bid strategy.

In this hands-on leadership role you will stay involved in tenders, build the department’s systems and people, and work with Project Managers, Construction Managers and Directors to ensure robust estimates that clients and subcontractors can rely on.

• 5-10+ years in estimating across commercial, fitout or refurbishment projects.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an Estimating Manager to lead the Brisbane estimating team.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will remain closely involved in our tenders while building the systems, relationships and people needed for the department to perform at a high level. Working alongside our Project Managers, Construction Managers and Directors, you will help shape bid strategy, sharpen pricing and ensure every tender is backed by estimates our clients and subcontractors can rely on.

It's a role for someone who wants to shape how Mettle wins work, not just estimate it.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As Estimating Manager, you will take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to contract award, while building the team and processes that support the department's ongoing success:

• Review specifications, contracts and site conditions to identify risk and opportunity ahead of tender close
• Prepare take-offs, cost plans and estimates that stand up to scrutiny from clients and senior management
• Negotiate competitive pricing with subcontractors and suppliers
• Conduct a final review of each estimate prior to submission to confirm accuracy
• Mentor and develop the estimating team, building capability across the department
• Maintain close collaboration with project delivery teams throughout the tender process
• Maintain a library of cost data and benchmarks to inform future estimates
• Identify and implement improvements to the department's estimating processes and systems

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

You are an experienced estimating professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is able to lead a team. You will also bring:

• 5-10+ years' experience in estimating across commercial, fitout or refurbishment projects, including experience leading a team
• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
• A proven track record of converting tenders into awarded work
• Broad experience across commercial sectors
• Strong commercial acumen, understanding of trade packages and current market rates
• Proficiency in CostX and the Microsoft Office suite
• A genuine interest in developing and mentoring your team
• Strong attention to detail, balanced with the ability to manage multiple tenders at once
