Job summary

CGC Recruitment is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Project Engineer to join a Tier 1 contractor on a bespoke renewable energy project in Queensland. The role is site-based, focusing on the day-to-day engineering and delivery of a major HVAC package on a FIFO 2/1 roster.

You'll coordinate subcontractors, review drawings, track progress, and resolve technical issues on site, ensuring works meet specification and programme while maintaining strong safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Mechanical Project Engineer | FIFO | Renewable Energy Project

Up to $1,100/day + Super | 2/1 Roster | 6-Month Contract

We are seeking a driven, hands-on Mechanical HVAC Project Engineer to join a Tier 1 contractor delivering a bespoke renewable energy project in Queensland.

This is an opportunity to contribute to one of Queensland's most complex projects, taking ownership of day-to-day project engineering activities across a major HVAC package.

Operating on a FIFO 2/1 roster from any East Coast airport, this six-month contract is suited to an experienced site-based Mechanical Engineer who enjoys being on the ground, solving problems and driving project delivery.

This is a hands-on Project Engineer role - not a Senior Engineer or management position. We want practical, delivery-focused engineers who are happy to roll up their sleeves, get involved in the detail and keep the project moving.

The Opportunity

Working as part of a high-performing project team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day engineering and coordination of a major HVAC package within a complex renewable energy development.

• Managing day-to-day project engineering activities across the HVAC package.
• Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, site teams and other project stakeholders.
• Monitoring installation progress, quality, safety and technical compliance.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions and construction documentation.
• Resolving site-based technical issues and coordinating practical engineering solutions.
• Tracking project progress, identifying potential delays and supporting programme delivery.
• Managing RFIs, variations, technical queries and project documentation.
• Working closely with construction and commissioning teams to ensure works are delivered to specification and programme.
• Maintaining a visible site presence and taking a proactive, solutions-focused approach to project delivery.

About You

You are a practical Mechanical Project Engineer who thrives in a site-based environment and enjoys being directly involved in the delivery of complex HVAC works.

To be considered, you will have:

• A minimum of 5 years' experience delivering HVAC projects in a site-based project engineering role.
• A mechanical engineering degree or relevant engineering qualifications.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating mechanical services installation and resolving technical issues on site.
• Strong knowledge of project engineering processes, construction documentation and subcontractor coordination.
• A proactive, hands-on attitude and the confidence to take ownership of day-to-day engineering deliverables.
• The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced project environment and contribute from day one.
• Availability to commence ASAP and commit to a FIFO 2/1 roster.

Importantly, we are not looking for a Senior Project Engineer, Engineering Manager or someone seeking a predominantly leadership-focused role. This position is ideal for an engineer who wants to stay close to the work, get involved in the detail and make a tangible contribution to project delivery.
