Job summary

Brisbane City Council’s City Projects Office is seeking a Project Engineer to contribute to capital works that improve the city’s transport network and public assets.

You will review designs for constructability and assess contractor compliance, supporting on-time, on-budget delivery and maintaining quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Salary Range:Band 5 ($98,778 - $111,969 + Superannuation)

(Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions)

Work type: Temporary Full-time

Infrastructure Services plays a critical role in preserving, maintaining and enhancing Brisbane’s extensive asset portfolio, including the city’s road network, bridges, footpaths, parks and urban forest.

Our Branch

Asphalt and Aggregates oversees the management of Council's quarries and road surfacing operations, including the laying and repair of asphalt pavements, minor pothole repairs and road line marking.

The branch consists of three core business units: Road Resurfacing, Asphalt Production and Quarries.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated professional to join our City Projects Office program and play a key role in the delivery of capital works projects that improve the community's transport network and public assets.

This role will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

As a Project Engineer, you will review engineering designs for constructability and suitability, assess contractor compliance with specifications and standards, and support the successful delivery of major civil and transport infrastructure projects. You will work closely with contractors, consultants, internal stakeholders and community members to manage project outcomes, resolve issues and maintain strong stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Working within a multidisciplinary project team, you will contribute engineering expertise across project planning, procurement, construction delivery and contract administration. You will monitor project performance, prepare technical reports, support community engagement activities and provide sound engineering advice to ensure projects meet organisational objectives and community expectations.

To be successful you will have:

• demonstrated ability to plan, manage, deliver and monitor Asphalt & Spray Sealing operations, preferably within a local government or public sector environment
• experience reviewing engineering designs, technical specifications and construction methodologies to ensure suitability, compliance and project outcomes
• sound knowledge of construction standards, contract administration, quality assurance processes and assessing contractor conformance to specifications
• strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including experience working with contractors, consultants, community representatives and internal stakeholders
• demonstrated ability to apply engineering knowledge and skills related to the investigation, design, delivery and construction management of infrastructure projects
• experience preparing project reports, monitoring project performance and maintaining project management systems and documentation
• ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while effectively managing individual responsibilities and competing priorities
• knowledge and experience in project management methodologies, systems and software
• experience delivering asphalt road construction or maintenance projects would be a great advantage.
