Job summary

Hitachi Rail in Perth, Australia is seeking a proactive Project Engineer to join our fast-paced team. You will support extensive engineering activities, from planning with the Project Manager to delivering systems design across rail signalling projects.

The successful candidate will have a degree in engineering or computer science, 5+ years in project engineering within rail, and experience with ETCS/ERTMS/CBTC, real-time systems, and safety-critical practices.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with rail background.
• 5+ years in a Project Engineering role in rail, systems and signalling.
• Experience in turnkey rail signalling projects (ETCS, ERTMS, CBTC) desirable.
• Experience in real-time system engineering, testing & integration and safety-critical techniques.

Responsibilities

• Plan engineering activities with the Project Manager and design teams.
• Engineering delivery, changes, and risk reviews management.
• Lead design reviews and configuration management.
• Engineering status reporting including risk reviews.
• Obtain technical approvals and manage configurations.
• Perform systems engineering across the project.
• Ensure activities meet continuous improvement standards.
• Maintain high safety standards in all activities.

Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Project Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Perth, Australia.

Key responsibilities:

• Planning of engineering activities in conjunction with the Project Manager, system and subsystem design teams
• Engineering management, delivery, and change management
• Design review and management
• Engineering status reporting incl. risk reviews
• Technical approvals and configuration management
• Systems engineering
• Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high level of continuous improvement
• Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high level of safety

Key knowledge and experience:

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with background in Electrical/Mechanical/Systems Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in a Project Engineering role, with experience in rail, systems and signalling.
• Experience in turnkey projects(within rail signalling) highly desirable,particularlydelivering systems such as ETCS, ERTMS and CBTC.
• Experience in effective resource management and working with a large multi-cultural team.
• Experience in real-time system engineering; testing and integration activities, software verification and validation best practices and safety critical techniques.
• Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a challenging environment.
• Ability to analyse data and draw insights to inform decision-making.
• Ability to form and build key stakeholder relationships.
