Job description

Join Murray River Council and help deliver infrastructure that strengthens our communities

Murray River Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. This is an exciting opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure projects, taking them from planning and design through to construction and completion, with a clear focus on engineering quality, technical advice, compliance and sound project outcomes.

About the Role

  • As Project Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from inception through to completion, planning works, coordinating stakeholders, troubleshooting challenges and overseeing quality and compliance throughout delivery.
  • You'll play a key role in preparing works programs, scheduling capital projects and supporting the delivery of Council's road and civil infrastructure network.
  • This is not a purely office-based role. You'll spend time both in the office and on-site, working closely with contractors, consultants and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest engineering standards.
  • This role also provides the opportunity to contribute to projects delivered under the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Road Maintenance Council Contract (RMCC), giving exposure to State Road infrastructure and TfNSW standards.

What you'll be doing

  • Planning, coordinating and managing civil infrastructure projects from concept through to completion.
  • Preparing project schedules, programs of work and delivery plans.
  • Managing road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects.
  • Undertaking site inspections and overseeing project delivery to ensure quality, compliance and engineering standards are achieved.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation.
  • Monitoring contractor performance and coordinating consultants and stakeholders.
  • Identifying and resolving construction and technical issues as they arise.
  • Supporting grant-funded projects, reporting requirements and project acquittals.
  • Contributing to the delivery of a diverse range of infrastructure projects including roads, stormwater, levee banks, footpaths and other community infrastructure assets.

About You

We're looking for a hands-on Project Engineer who can confidently take ownership of projects and see them through from planning to delivery.

You will bring:

  • Experience in road construction design, planning and delivery.
  • A strong understanding of road construction methods, materials and engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated project management experience across the full project lifecycle, from inception through to completion.
  • Experience working on-site and overseeing civil construction works.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to think outside the box when challenges arise.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to work independently.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering compliance, quality assurance and project delivery requirements.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
  • Relevant Civil Engineering Degree
  • Minimum five years' industry experience.
  • Eligibility for admission to Engineers Australia.
  • Current Driver Licence.
  • Understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • Previous experience working within Local Government.
  • Experience working on Transport for NSW projects or under TfNSW specifications.
