About The Project

The Northern Hospital Redevelopment is valued at approximately $500 million and is being undertaken for the Victorian Health Building Authority within the health sector. The scope of work includes the demolition of the existing structure, construction of a new building, and refurbishment of the main hospital building. Stage 2 of the project will deliver a new Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient Unit (IPU) tower. The Emergency Department will feature a Resuscitation Zone, adult and paediatric Short Stay Unit, Emergency Observation Unit, and Inpatient Unit, enhancing healthcare capabilities and services.

About The Role

• Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure hospital-related projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs, and specifications, while meeting the specific requirements of healthcare environments.
• Assist with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports, ensuring alignment with hospital project goals and compliance with healthcare standards.
• Monitor construction progress for adherence to programme and report to the Site Manager or Project Manager, ensuring any hospital-specific challenges are effectively managed.
• Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects, particularly focusing on healthcare facility layouts, medical infrastructure, and hospital compliance requirements.
• Contribute to improvements to existing designs, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance healthcare functionality and patient care environments.
• Arrange and oversee the letting of tenders, ensuring contractors are experienced in hospital construction and refurbishment.
• Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions, particularly in managing costs associated with specialised hospital facilities and equipment.
• Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards, including compliance with healthcare construction codes and safety requirements.
• Execute working knowledge of contractual obligations and legislation relevant to hospital construction projects, including healthcare-specific building standards and accreditation requirements.
• Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment, and quality risk assessments to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes, with a focus on healthcare settings, infection control, and patient safety.
• Analyse and use document and record management, progress and project performance reporting, and compliance reporting, ensuring hospital-specific requirements are met.
• Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of subcontractors to achieve outcomes tailored to healthcare construction needs.
• Utilise effective time management skills, including sequencing of work and resource time management, ensuring hospital facilities are delivered to meet critical operational deadlines.
• Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting, and procedures, with additional emphasis on healthcare project standards and client expectations.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated site-based experience with a Tier 1/2 head contractor in Australia, particularly in hospital construction or refurbishment projects.
• Familiarity with healthcare-specific regulations, standards, and design requirements.
